WRTG 205 - TOPICS: NONFICTION GENRES
Study of and guided practice of analysis and writing in a nonfiction genre (. Students will explore examples and models of the genre, along with relevant theory. Through their analysis and genre-specific writing, students will explore the genre’s political, social, and cultural relevance. Genre study may focus on a specific topic or theme.

WRTG 222 - ESSAY WRITING: TOPICS & GENRES
Study of and guided practice in the essay as a distinct and dynamic mode of writing, highlighting the essay's shifting history and current relevance. WRTG 230 - TECHNICAL & PROFESSIONAL WRITING
This course introduces students to writing genres commonly encountered in business and technical fields, such as reports, proposals, cover letters, instructions, and descriptions. Students will write individually and collaboratively, and complete a significant research project.

WRTG 305 - MEMOIR AND THE WRITING SELF
This course acquaints students with the area of personal journalism, which serves as a forum for the expression of opinion and personal views, including memoir and essay writing. While emphasizing the art of fusing solid reporting and feature writing with the art of the personal essay, the course explores the art and craft of literary nonfiction as well as the structure, tone and style of essays, columns and memoir, giving special attention to some of the nation’s leading journalists, essayists and memoirists both past and present. Students write. The course is intended to help the student hone ideas and to shape them into thoughtful, well-written memoir essays for publication.
