Offered in: Chicago
The Interdisciplinary Conservatory at Roosevelt University offers a Fast-Track Master of Arts degree in Theatre Directing designed to serve highly motivated theatre educators and early-career directors. The curriculum is delivered through two intensive summer sessions and one asynchronous online course during the fall semester over a two-year period. Students complete 30 credit hours of required coursework followed by 3 credit hours of thesis or capstone work demonstrating the synthesis of their development as a director.
The Fast-Track faculty includes Interdisciplinary Conservatory and Theatre Conservatory professors as well as working professionals from the Chicago theatre community and beyond. The program emphasizes practical training for directors, complemented by workshops and guest lectures with professionals in the field. Enrollment in the program is limited.
As an integral component of the Fast-Track Theatre Directing program, students attend productions at a variety of Chicago-area theatres as an extension of the classroom experience. When possible, these visits include opportunities to meet actors, directors, and other theatre professionals involved in the productions.
