The Interdisciplinary Music Honors, Bachelor of Musical Arts degree is a flexible, honors-level program designed for academically strong students who seek to integrate advanced musical study with a second field outside of music. The program prepares students for graduate study and careers across a wide range of disciplines, including musicology, music theory, music therapy, arts administration, music entrepreneurship, librarianship, and public arts advocacy.

Students combine foundational and advanced coursework in music with an established minor, selected coursework in a single discipline, or a self-designed interdisciplinary concentration (for example, History and Political Science). Each student’s course of study is individually crafted to reflect their intellectual interests and professional aspirations.

The degree culminates in a senior capstone project that meaningfully integrates music with the methodologies and perspectives of the second discipline. Project formats vary according to the student’s focus, but all graduates demonstrate the ability to synthesize rigorous musical training with interdisciplinary inquiry.

Admission

Students will present the audition requirements for their major performance area (instrument or voice). Please consult the CCPA Admission and Audition Information web page for the requirements.  An essay and an interview with program faculty are also required.

Admission Requirements:

Admission to the CCPA's BMA-Interdisciplinary Honors includes admission to the Roosevelt University Honors Program. Please consult the Honors Program section of this catalog for grade and other requirements.

Grade Requirements:

The minimum passing grade in Applied Music 201 is C- (including the related jury exams).

The minimum passing grade in HON 399 HONORS SENIOR THESIS is B-.

GPA Requirements:

Students must earn a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 in all major subject area coursework, and a cumulative GPA of 2.0 across all core, elective, and general education courses.

Residency Requirements:

The final 30 credit hours toward a student's degree must be completed at Roosevelt University, or a minimum of 60 hours must be taken in residence at Roosevelt University.

Music electives for BMA Interdisciplinary Honors students may include up to four semesters of Applied 301 lessons, including PERF 301 and/or PERF 391 and relevant Performance Class. Voice students may also include up to four semesters of VOI 399.

The second emphasis may include courses in any non-music discipline, chosen in consultation with the faculty advisor in accordance with the student's interests. It may be a formal minor offered by the university or an interdisciplinary array of courses.
