Music, Minor
Offered in: Chicago
The Music Minor is open to students in the Colleges of Arts and Sciences, Education, and Business who wish to pursue musical studies to complement or enhance their major areas or build on their previous own musical activities. The study of music develops the capacity to identify, integrate and apply materials, choices, and techniques to form new ideas and create new and unique work. Thus, it combines well with any humanistic field as well as technical or scientific disciplines. Musical knowledge and skills are also useful for students who intend to pursue a teaching career at the elementary, middle, or high school level.
The music minor includes performance studies and courses that explicitly tie to the University’s signal issue of social justice by treating music as a cultural force.
Six courses (18 credits) are required for the music minor. At least two of the courses must be taken at Roosevelt University, and one of these must be at the 300-level. Minimum grades of C- are required to fulfill minor requirements.
