The Minor in Digital and Multimedia Communications prepares students to write and produce multimedia content in professional settings. This abbreviated version of our interdisciplinary degree will show students what it means to develop creative and professional content across digital and multimedia platforms with an introduction to the basic tools of the trade. The minor is a good opportunity for students with majors in other fields to acquire a critical understanding of the power and role of multimedia content in their desired profession.
Knowledge of Multimedia Production Tools:
The program will prepare students to be effective communicators with a basic knowledge of media production requirements and tools.
Outcomes:
· Students will be exposed to advanced tools that can be used to produce multimedia
· Students will learn to write and communicate complex ideas effectively for media content
Media Writing Basics:
The program will prepare students to contribute to their field through communication and media production.
Outcomes:
· Students will develop their creative and professional voices as content creators and digital storytellers.
· Students will be introduced to the concept of developing narratives in media through courses like Digital Storytelling and Media Writing
Professional Media Rhetoric Understanding:
The program will build students’ experience in media in a way that will make them more media literate.
Outcomes:
· Students will be introduced to what goes into media production to better understand how to interpret and identify media strategies and blueprints
· By understanding multimedia ethics and considerations, students will better understand the rhetorical devices used by the media and other companies in mass communication.
Five courses (16 credit hours) are required for the minor in Digital and Multimedia Communications.
• Transfer students must complete three DMMC courses (9 credit hours) at Roosevelt.
• No 100-level courses may count toward the hours required for this minor.
• No pass/fail grades are accepted for this minor.
• All courses for the minor must be completed with a minimum grade of C (not C-) or better.
• Maintain at least an overall grade point average of B- (2.67 or higher GPA) in the minor.

The minor will include TWO electives from the DMMC approved list. These students should be chosen in conjunction with an advisor to get students experience in various digital and multimedia platforms, in which they have personal interest or a professional need.
