ACADEMIC STANDARDS AND GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS

The Academic Standards and Progression Policies may be found in the Occupational Therapy Student Handbook

Curriculum Progression Policy

All academic courses are prerequisite courses for Level II Fieldwork. A failed course must be successfully repeated the next time it is offered. Because of course sequencing, students who must repeat a course will be placed on a Leave of Absence (LOA) and must return in the designated semester as specified in the LOA terms. Failure to return and repeat as agreed results in dismissal. Students must complete the MSOT program within thirty-six months from admission if granted a continuation appeal in writing by the Program Director due to mitigating circumstances beyond the students control.

Good Academic Standing

The University Academic Standing Policy (which is located in the University Graduate Catalog) does not apply to the MSOT Program. The following is the MSOT Program Academic Standing  Policy.

To be in good academic standing” in the MSOT Program, students must meet the following criteria:

  • Maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0.
  • Earn no grade below a C” in any course.
  • Receive no more than two grades of C” throughout the program.
  • Passing grades are required in OT Level II Fieldwork courses.

Students who do not meet these standards will be placed on academic probation and provided with structured remediation support.

Successful Completion of Fieldwork Rotations

Progression through the MSOT program requires successful completion of all fieldwork rotations.

  • If a student fails a fieldwork rotation, the case is reviewed by the Program Director and the Academic Fieldwork Coordinator (AFWC).
  • A remediation plan may be required prior to a new placement.
  • Fieldwork must follow the established rotation schedule.
  • Failure of a second fieldwork rotation results in dismissal from the program.
