The BFA in Musical Theatre Dance is a pre-professional degree program designed to develop a strong foundation in the skills required for a career as a musical theatre performer, with particular focus on the discipline of dance.  One of the most distinctive programs in the country, this curricula has been developed over time by renowned dancers such former Joffrey Ballet principal Luis Perez and Tony-nominee Jane Lanier to be a training ground for the actor-athlete.  Students receive a unique blend of training in acting, voice and intensive dance studies in Ballet, Jazz, Modern, Tap and Musical Theatre Dance styles.  BFA Musical Theatre Dance students will receive specialized training in dance pedagogy, kinesiology, and injury prevention.  MTDs can audition for all of our CCPA productions, and they also have many opportunities to work at our Chicago-area professional theatres. 

Admission Requirements

Students interested in the Musical Theatre Dance Concentration should already have a strong dance background and be at an intermediate to advanced level of Ballet and Jazz technique.  Applicants to this program should be individuals interested in furthering their Dance training while acquiring training in Acting and Vocal Performance.

Residency Requirement

A student must earn at least 60 credit hours at Roosevelt University.

Grade Requirements

A student must earn at least C- in all Theatre Conservatory coursework, and a GPA of 3.0 in courses in their major subject area.

Theatre Electives should be chosen in consultation with the Program Director and Academic Advisor, and may not include TVOI applied lessons.

Your program’s degree map is reviewed annually and updated as schedules change (although you retain the same course requirements as long as you are continuously enrolled in your degree program).
