The English Minor will develop cultural knowledge, research techniques and critical communication skills that complement a student’s work in any of the other academic majors in the university. Courses in the Minor cultivate essential skills that employers seek in job candidates: the ability to conduct research, to synthesize and distill that information, and to effectively communicate it to disparate audiences.

Requirements

This minor sequence (six courses) includes two courses from the British and American survey sequence (ENG 210 BRITISH LITERATURE TO 1789, ENG 211 BRITISH LITERATURE 1789 TO PRESENT, ENG 212 AMERICAN LITERATURE TO 1865, ENG 213 AMERICAN LITERATURE 1865-PRESENT), the analytical interpretation course (ENG 220 INTRODUCTION TO LITERARY ANALYSIS ), and three electives at the 300-level. Students should choose 300-level courses based on the foundation they have established in the surveys they have chosen, in consultation with an English faculty advisor.

Students must maintain a 2.5 GPA in the minor, and must earn grades of C- or higher in all coursework taken for the minor. Transfer students must complete at least three ENG courses at Roosevelt, and at least TWO of these courses must be at the 300 level
