The Bilingual/ESL Education minor prepares future educators to improve student learning with children and families who have a first language other than English. The minor leads to the addition of a bilingual and/or ESL endorsement on an Illinois Professional Educator License.
To earn the bilingual endorsement, teacher candidates must pass a state language exam and successfully complete the courses in the minor. Visit the Illinois Licensure website http://www.icts.nesinc.com/ (Target Language Proficiency assessment) for more information.
In addition, all students completing the Bilingual/ESL minor must complete 100 clinical hours of observation and practice teaching in classrooms serving English-language learners.
