Offered in: Chicago | Schaumburg
This certificate program is intended for licensed teachers who have completed Roosevelt’s MA degree in Dual Language Teacher Leadership and who wish to add a principal endorsement to their Illinois Professional Educator Licenses. The required courses prepare dual language teacher leaders to manage and lead PreK – 12 schools as assistant principals or principals.
ADMISSION
Students must complete the MA, DLTL in its entirety prior to applying for this licensure extension. Candidates for admission must earn approval from the steering committee for Roosevelt's principal preparation program. A minimum 3.0 GPA in Dual Language Teacher Leadership courses is required. In addition, candidates must successfully present a portfolio of artifacts documenting the leadership achievements and potential of the candidate, sit for an interview, and successfully complete a written response to scenarios.
Because the requirements of the admission portfolio are extensive and intensive, it is not unusual for students to apply for admission after completing the MA degree. Applicants are encouraged to communicate early and often with university faculty and a professional advisor in the Department of Education before applying for admission. Candidates are admitted for a Summer Start ONLY and must complete a year-long leadership internship while teaching, pass two licensing exams (195 & 196) and pass the Teacher Evaluation Modules offered through AA #2001 in order to receive licensure.
Completing 12 semester hours of coursework in the following courses and all other state requirements (e.g., content exam, teacher evaluation training) will lead to the Principal Endorsement on an Illinois Professional Educator license. Students must maintain a 3.0 GPA; no grade below a C is acceptable.
