Inquiry-Based Language Early Childhood Education, Certificate
Offered in: Chicago | Schaumburg
This five-course certificate will prepare teachers and teacher candidates to understand the nuances of Bilingual and/or Dual Language early childhood education (ECHD) within the context of the Reggio Emilia Approach (play, inquiry and language development). For ECHD to be effective, it must be developmentally appropriate and culturally responsive. The coursework sets the tone for this lens integrating inquiry and play within the tenets of bilingual and dual language education. It will also provide students with the opportunity to participate in hands-on activities both in class and with students that will expand their understanding of inquiry and play.
Applicants for admission to the program must have a cumulative undergraduate or graduate GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale on official transcripts documenting the undergraduate degree and any graduate coursework or degree. A personal essay describing experiences and background in teaching in diverse settings is also required.
All graduate students must maintain a 3.0 GPA in their graduate courses, and no grade below C is acceptable.
