Spanish for Health Care Professionals, Certificate

The Spanish for Healthcare Professionals Certificate Program trains students in Spanish language skills geared specifically to the health professions. The four-course program will provide students with the linguistic and cultural competencies necessary to communicate with Spanish-speaking patients with limited proficiency in English. Covering pertinent grammar and vocabulary relevant to health care situations, the program will also introduce students to sociocultural issues specific to Hispanic populations. Professional Competencies:
1. Develop sufficient linguistic skills to communicate effectively with Spanish-speaking patients. While speaking and comprehension skills will be especially emphasized, students will also learn to read and write in Spanish.
