Documentary Studies, Minor
Offered in: Chicago
The Documentary Studies minor is interdisciplinary (Journalism/Media Studies/Art/English/Film Studies) and is designed to engage students interested in documentary photography, video, audio, and narrative production fieldwork. Courses incorporate practical, theoretical, and historical content and methods and introduce students to and expand their knowledge of documentary practices.
The minor exposes students to work by documentary filmmakers, photographers, and writers and allows them to explore and create their own documentary projects. Most courses will consist of readings, classroom discussions, and laboratory work in photography, video, audio, or narrative production. This careful study of excellent models as well as up-to-date production skills will equip students to connect with and engage various communities; students with documentary productions skills can work in a variety of industries.
The Department of Communication, the home for this minor, is also home to the Torch student newspaper, WRBC radio station, and the Gage Gallery -- outlets that offer students the unique ability to create content that influences readers and viewers inside and outside Roosevelt University.
